EU Approves Gut-Signal Additive to Help Prevent Slow Weight Gain
A new dietary additive called inulin propionate ester (IPE) has been authorized by the EU as a Novel Food, designed to boost gut appetite signals to prevent gradual weight gain. The ingredient, derived from inulin and propionate, may help people feel fuller on about 10 g per day and could be added to foods or taken as a supplement. Developed by Imperial College London and the University of Glasgow, with a spinout company to scale production, IPE is early in its commercial journey and broader health effects require further study.
