Gilded Seafloor Orb Traced to Deep-Sea Anemone
A four-inch golden orb discovered on the Gulf of Alaska seafloor in August 2023 was identified by NOAA Ocean Exploration as a relic of Relicanthus daphneae, a giant deep-sea anemone, whose base helps anchor the creature to rocks, highlighting how much about the deep ocean remains mysterious.
