Investigators identified Hamam al-Hammami, an Omani co-pilot, as the suspect who attacked a captain on a Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv. His deleted social media profiles contained images of al Qaeda leaders and anti-Israel content. He was previously removed from Oman Air for radical views but was later hired by Flydubai without a background check from his former employer.
Investigators are probing why Hamam al-Hammami, the Omani co-pilot accused of stabbing the captain of a FlyDubai flight to Tel Aviv on September 30, was hired despite previous concerns over his extremist views. Reports indicate he was grounded by Oman Air in 2024 after visiting radical websites, yet FlyDubai did not verify his status with the Omani carrier before employing him. The incident, which resulted in an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after passengers subdued the attacker, has triggered a UAE-led investigation into aviation security failures and potential terrorist links.
