Coast Guard ends search for Thomas Gigler, presumed dead after Carnival Panorama incident
The US Coast Guard has suspended its search for Thomas Gigler, a 56-year-old computer programmer from Redlands, California, who went overboard from the Carnival Panorama on Saturday. After more than 41 hours of searching 1,707 square miles of ocean near Mexico without finding him, authorities presume he is dead. Gigler was traveling with his wife, Michelle, for their anniversary. The incident occurred approximately 57 miles off the Mexican coast. While the ship's crew reviewed surveillance footage and notified authorities, the reason for the jump remains unclear. The Coast Guard stated the decision to suspend the search was based on survival probability models and environmental conditions, though they may resume if new information emerges.
