A circulating image allegedly shows Nepali-British climber Nirmal Purja and nine others on Pakistan's Broad Peak moments before an avalanche swept the party away; ten climbers died at about 5,700 m, seven bodies have been recovered and three remain missing, as rescuers contend with hazardous terrain and rough weather. The expedition included climbers from Nepal, Pakistan, Oman, the US and China.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated in the Lok Sabha that Jammu and Kashmir suffered due to the mistakes made by Jawaharlal Nehru, and that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir belongs to India. Shah attributed the loss of 45,000 lives to Article 370 and emphasized that it was the root cause of separatism and terrorism in the region. He criticized the Congress for opposing the rights of backward classes and highlighted the positive changes in J&K since the abrogation of Article 370. Shah also mentioned the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits and the need to provide them with rights and representation.
