Hill Country ranch to anchor state’s second-largest park
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will convert about 54,000 acres of the Silver Lake Ranch in Kinney and Edwards counties into Silver Lake State Park, making it the second-largest state park in Texas after Big Bend Ranch. The purchase, funded by the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund and sporting-goods tax revenue, follows a Moody Foundation donation that covered roughly 88% of the ranch. The park will be developed in phases with public input and initial day-use access, and it features a 30-acre spring-fed lake, limestone cliffs, and diverse wildlife.
