The Patriots’ contract negotiations with Christian Gonzalez remain unresolved, prompting hopes for a new deal, while the team’s Boutte trade to the Texans for Jaylen Reed and a 2028 seventh-round pick fuels debate over front-office decisions as training camp winds down.
Drake Maye stood out at Monday’s Patriots practice, completing 15 of 17 passes in 11-on-11 and guiding a late scoring drive. He linked with A.J. Brown and Romeo Doubs, including a 70-ish-yard TD to Brown, while Doubs led the team with four receptions. The RB3 spot remains unsettled behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson, with Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty in the mix. Namdi Obiazor stepped into a starter-like role in Muma’s absence. The session lasted about 90 minutes of full-padded work, and Tuesday’s walkthrough is expected to be closed to the public.
Patriots and Colts had a productive joint practice headlined by Drake Maye, with multiple reports highlighting Maye’s deep completions and explosive red-zone work. The day sparked a flood of training-camp content—blog notes, takeaways, transcripts, pressers, and camp recaps—while New England also added veterans Hassan Haskins and JaMycal Hasty to the backfield. Christian Gonzalez’s minor injury sidelined him briefly, and Maye isn’t expected to play in the upcoming preseason opener as the team opens a new training facility and readies for the August games.
Christian Gonzalez was not seen at Tuesday’s Patriots–Colts joint practice due to a minor injury, not contract talks, per Greg Bedard. He had been a full participant this summer after a shakier spring, and Monday’s practice saw him contest a throw but stay on the field. ESPN’s Ian Rapoport said contract talks could extend into next season, while Gonzalez later appeared on NFL Network’s Top 100 list. The team is set to practice again Saturday, and there’s a chance he wouldn’t play in Thursday’s preseason opener anyway.
