Diversity Dips in 2025 Streaming Films, UCLA Report Finds
A UCLA Hollywood Diversity Report shows 2025 streaming films marked a decline in representation: lead actors of color dropped from 51% to 36%, women directors fell to 23.6% (the lowest yet), and majority-color casts fell to 25.8% as overall streaming output shrank. The authors attribute the downturn to backlash against DEI, industry contraction, and belt-tightening, though standout titles like Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters demonstrate representation can still draw audiences when budgets permit.
