Heller defends 'Dog Stars' film despite $110M budget and $30M global gross
Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Peter Heller’s novel 'The Dog Stars' has underperformed financially, grossing just over $30 million worldwide against a $110 million production cost. Despite critical panning for being derivative, Heller maintains the film is a success for his book sales, which have surged to 10,000 copies per week. He credits the global marketing campaign for boosting visibility of his other titles, including 'The River' and 'The Orchard', and expects two more of his books to be adapted within two years.
