Phil Tippett Closes Berkeley Studio, Auctions Four Decades of Practical Effects
Oscar-winning effects pioneer Phil Tippett has shuttered his Berkeley studio after four decades and a Chapter 11 bankruptcy, auctioning off decades of props, stop-motion models and gear. Tippett Studio will continue production from its Toronto facility and will rely on external studios when needed, as it evolves its physical footprint. Tippett says he intends to keep working in visual effects and has no plan to retire, with recent credits including work on The Mandalorian and Grogu and his stop-motion film Mad God.
