The split pitboxes at the Detroit street circuit are causing entry and exit issues for IndyCar drivers due to space issues. The pitlane entry funnels the field in and then splits them in two, with a blue line down the middle of the dual lanes acting as the median. While some drivers find it tricky, others feel it's safe. However, following feedback from drivers, the orange line that demarcates the pit exit from the cars on track has been angled towards the wall and shortened by three feet.
Santino Ferrucci has praised the new Detroit street circuit, which will be used for the first time this weekend, saying it will be "really fast" and more like Long Beach than Belle Isle. The 1.7-mile, nine-turn circuit features a huge straight on one of Detroit’s most famous streets and, unique in IndyCar, a split pitlane. Ferrucci said he was excited about the dual pit lane and hoped the race distance would be right with the strategy.
Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas will start the Australian Grand Prix from the pit lane due to changes made under parc ferme regulations. Perez failed to set a time in qualifying and Red Bull opted to fit his car with new components, while Bottas had a written request granted to change his suspension set-up.
