Court blocks retroactive pit-lane tweaks, Gasly’s Monaco result remains downgraded
An FIA court of appeal ruled that a retrospective change to the pit-lane distance parameter is not permissible, meaning the official measurement used to assess pit-lane speed must remain fixed and apply equally to all drivers. Although Alpine argued Gasly did not exceed the 60km/h limit under a shorter line—which had led to the initial penalty being overturned—the court concluded that the benchmark cannot be displaced for a single competitor after the race. The ruling preserves the established measurement and did not address penalties for Hamilton, Russell or Piastri; Alpine have sent the third-place trophy to Red Bull and are considering CAS as a further option.
