Measles hype spikes vitamin A exposures and online interest
Boston Children’s Hospital researchers linked a surge in vitamin A and cod liver oil discussions as measles treatments to an 38.7% rise in pediatric vitamin A exposures (86 cases) reported to poison centers and a spike in Google searches. Experts warn vitamin A is only beneficial for deficiency and can be toxic in non-deficient individuals; there is no proven cure, and vaccines remain the best defense. The 2025 measles outbreak reached 2,288 cases in the U.S., mostly among unvaccinated people, with kindergarten vaccination rates below the 95% herd-immunity threshold.
