Midland Shooting Ends With Suspect Dead as Victims Treated
A gunman opened fire in Midland, Texas, killing at least one person and injuring nine others before the suspect, 45-year-old Victor Mata Villarreal, was confirmed dead after a police standoff that saw the barricaded man use a vacant veterinary clinic as a hideout; authorities say robots and drones assisted in confirming his death, and the shooter had been previously sought for attempted capital murder after firing at a Midland officer. Four victims are undergoing surgery and five are in stable condition as road closures remain in place during the investigation.
