SpaceX's Next Starship Launch to Include Crucial NASA Demonstration
SpaceX is planning a key demonstration for NASA during the third test flight of its Starship rocket, which would involve a propellant transfer demonstration. This demonstration is part of a NASA "Tipping Point" contract awarded to SpaceX in 2020, aimed at developing and testing Cryogenic Fluid Management (CFM) technology. The successful completion of the propellant transfer demonstration would push Starship beyond its current benchmarks and advance cryogenic fluid transfer technology, which is crucial for future missions to the moon and Mars. NASA has a significant interest in the success of the Starship program, as SpaceX has a contract worth up to $4.2 billion to deliver astronauts to the moon under the agency's Artemis program.
