Cleveland Sirens Set for 2028 Debut Without Trademark Fights
Cleveland’s 2028 WNBA expansion team will be named the Sirens, tying to Lake Erie, with Sirens Blue and Erie Blue, and no expected trademark clash with the New York Sirens of the PWHL after discussions. The Sirens filed a trademark via CLE Travel Sports, and the team will play at Rocket Arena as the league expands to 18 teams (Philly in 2029, Detroit in 2030) with regular-season games rising from 44 to 50 next year (potentially 52 by 2029). An unrelated trademark dispute over the WNBA’s Rockers name with the Women’s Basketball League is separate from this naming decision.
