Gulf Coast Vibrio Outbreak Reaches 22 Cases in Florida, 4 Deaths
Florida has recorded 22 cases and four deaths from Vibrio vulnificus in 2026, with the latest fatality in Palm Beach County. The rare flesh-eating bacteria, linked to raw oysters and brackish water, has also caused 17 cases and six deaths in Louisiana. Health officials warn that infection risk is low for the general population but severe for those with compromised immune systems, urging thorough cooking of seafood and protection of open wounds.
