Hubble Space Telescope Overcomes Challenges and Returns to Operation
The Hubble Space Telescope, the world's most productive space telescope, is back in action after experiencing problems with one of its gyros. The telescope automatically entered safe mode on November 19th, but engineers were able to recover it. However, the gyro problem resurfaced multiple times, causing science operations to be suspended until December 8th. Now, the issue has been resolved, and the Hubble has resumed science operations. Although the telescope is not fully operational yet, with some instruments still offline, NASA expects the gyros to last into the 2030s. Despite periodic failures, the Hubble can continue operating with a single gyro if necessary.
