Hubble Space Telescope Resumes Mission Following Gyro Glitch Fix

The Hubble Space Telescope is set to resume science operations on Friday after NASA resolved a gyroscope glitch that had caused the suspension of astronomical observations for several weeks. The telescope, launched in 1990 and equipped with six gyros in 2009, now has only three operational. Despite this, Hubble should be able to continue observing distant stars and galaxies until the end of this decade, and possibly into the early 2030s. However, the telescope is slowly drifting from its intended orbit and is expected to drop to 500 kilometers by 2025. NASA is considering options to either execute a controlled reentry over the Pacific Ocean or boost the telescope higher into orbit to prolong its operation.
