Supernova-Bound Star Hosts Scaled-Up Solar System
Astronomers have discovered a scaled-up version of our solar system around a massive star called μ2 Sco in the Scorpius-Centaurus association. The star, which will eventually go supernova, has two candidate companions, CC0 and μ2 Sco b, with masses similar to Jupiter. The innermost candidate planet is located at a distance similar to Uranus in our solar system, while μ2 Sco b is located at a distance over nine times that of Pluto. This is the first confirmation of such a system around a star that will go supernova, suggesting that massive stars may also produce massive planets.
