Scott Pilgrim EX marks another life for the franchise, a side-scrolling beat-’em-up from Tribute Games that builds on the Takes Off era rather than retelling the original comics. Bryan Lee O’Malley is deeply involved in day-to-day production, even drawing a mini-comic introducing a new character, Metal Scott, as the team reunites with many of the Takes Off collaborators (Edgar Wright as producer, music by Anamanaguchi, art by Paul Robertson). The game follows Scott and a roster of playable characters as they rescue bandmates, fight diverse foes, and travel through time and space. O’Malley says there wasn’t a grand resurgence plan—just a natural flow from project to project—and EX is designed to be welcoming to newcomers while satisfying longtime fans. Scott Pilgrim EX launches March 3 on Switch, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
