The Seattle Kraken defeated the Washington Capitals 5-3 on Sunday, overcoming first goals from Alex Ovechkin and Jordan Kyrou. Seattle's Jared McCann scored the game-winner with five minutes remaining, while Washington's defensive mistakes and poor puck decisions led to a loss despite a strong start. The Capitals, who had won two straight, now sit at 3-2-0, while Seattle improved to 4-2-0.
The Ontario Reign and Coachella Valley Firebirds opened their 2025-26 AHL seasons with a 6-5 overtime victory for Ontario at Acrisure Arena. Seattle acquires Mackie Samoskevich from Florida in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick (No. 25, formerly Tampa Bay’s) and the better 2027 second-round pick from either Winnipeg or Columbus. Samoskevich, 23, can become a restricted free agent on July 1, posted a career-high 32 points this season, won the 2025 Stanley Cup with Florida, and joins former Michigan teammate Matty Beniers in Seattle.
Seattle Kraken acquired Florida Panthers right winger Mackie Samoskevich (23) for a 2027 conditional second-round pick, adding a speedier, right-handed shooter who helped Florida win the 2025 Stanley Cup.
