Micron Launches $10B Boise Research Lab to Solve AI Memory Bottlenecks
Micron Technology has announced a $10 billion investment to establish Micron Research Labs in Boise, Idaho, focusing on advanced memory technologies and semiconductor manufacturing. The facility, expected to break ground in 2027, will host hundreds of researchers and aim to address critical bottlenecks in AI infrastructure, specifically the challenge of moving and storing data for powerful accelerators. The lab will collaborate with academia, government, and industry partners, looking beyond a 10-year technology horizon to develop new memory and compute architectures. This move complements Micron’s existing $50 billion expansion in Boise and its broader commitment of over $250 billion to U.S. manufacturing and R&D, which is projected to create more than 90,000 jobs.
