Ancient living fossil reveals sideways-pointing teeth in Amazon tetrapod
A newly described 275-million-year-old tetrapod fossil from Brazil’s Amazon edge, named Tanyka amnicola, has a twisted lower jaw with sideways-pointing denticle-bearing teeth, earning it the label of a living fossil that lived alongside more modern tetrapods and survived the Carboniferous Rainforest Collapse, offering new insights into early tetrapod diet and evolution.
