Apple Watch Grows Audio Intelligence With Four New Features

Apple announced Audio Intelligence for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, adding Siri Recap (opt-in notes from conversations), Live Rewind (replay the last 15 seconds with transcription), Shazam (song ID in the Music Recognition widget), and Sound Recognition (alerts for sirens, doorbells, baby crying, etc., even when the iPhone isn’t nearby). None of the raw audio is stored; processing happens on the S11 chip’s Secure Exclave and data is deleted after use. Features require an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and, for Live Rewind and Siri Recap, an iPhone 16 or newer. Beta arrives later this year in English with additional languages later; EU availability is not at launch.

"HomePod adds smoke alarm detection feature"

The latest version of HomePod and HomePod mini now have a Sound Recognition feature that can detect activated smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, sending a notification to an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch. The feature can be set up using the Home app on an Apple device and can send a video along with the alert if a camera is incorporated in the HomeKit setup. The alert is sent from device to device, with no involvement of Apple's cloud servers.

Apple's HomePod and HomePod mini now have a Sound Recognition feature that listens for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home. When it hears the alarm, the HomePod sends a notification to your iPhone via the Home app. The feature runs on-device locally on the HomePod, protecting personal privacy. The Sound Recognition feature is also available on iPhone and iPad for deaf or hard-of-hearing users.
