Arizona Officially Declares Pluto as State Planet Despite Its Dwarf Planet Status
Arizona has named Pluto as its official state planet, despite the fact that it was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union in 2006. The decision was made to celebrate Arizona's historical connection to the discovery of Pluto, which was located by American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Arizona in 1930.
