Arizona Officially Designates Pluto as State Planet

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has signed legislation designating Pluto as the official state planet for Arizona, commemorating its discovery in the state in 1930. The bill, which passed unanimously in the state House and overwhelmingly in the state Senate, adds "Pluto is the official state planet" into state code. This move comes after Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet by the International Astronomical Union in 2006, sparking protests from its supporters who insist it should still be considered a planet.
