Southwest Exits ORD and IAD as Part of a Network Overhaul
Southwest will end service to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Washington Dulles (IAD) on June 4 as part of a profitability-driven network overhaul; the ORD exit could free gates for American and United as Southwest emphasizes its MDW base. The IAD departure drew disappointment from MWAA. Travelers affected can rebook to nearby airports or receive refunds—ORD passengers can switch to MDW, IND, or MKE, while IAD travelers can choose BWI, DCA, PHL, or RIC.
