Fritz Collapse and Cobolli Exit Leave US Open Men's Draw Wide Open
Six top-10 seeds exited the 2026 US Open men's draw in the first week, with Taylor Fritz and Flavio Cobolli suffering notable collapses. Fritz, the ninth seed, lost a five-set match to Francisco Cerundolo after leading two sets, while Cobolli, the fifth seed, fell to Alexander Blockx. These exits, alongside earlier losses by Novak Djokovic and Felix Auger-Aliassime, have significantly opened the field. Alexander Zverev, the top seed, advanced to the last 16, potentially facing no top-10 opponents in the remaining rounds. The US Open men's singles title remains in play for several American players, including Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe, as the draw becomes increasingly unpredictable.
