Bloomberg's Mark Gurman predicts that Apple will reintroduce Face ID and a telephoto camera to the third-generation iPhone Duo. The current model uses Touch ID and lacks a telephoto lens due to physical constraints, but future AI-driven miniaturization is expected to allow these features to return.
Early testers praise Apple’s iPhone Ultra for its pocket-sized footprint, nearly iPad mini inner display, and a refined hinge, with the camera viewfinder also getting praise. However, the device lacks a telephoto lens and Face ID, which could deter some buyers at an expected $2,000 price and may push upgrades toward the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
Tom's Guide argues that Apple's expected foldable iPhone Ultra will trade some flagship features for the novelty of a foldable form factor, notably a missing telephoto lens (relying on the main camera with digital zoom) and the absence of Face ID, potentially replaced by Touch ID. With a rumored price north of $2,000, the Ultra may underdeliver on core camera and biometric capabilities compared with the iPhone 18 Pro/Max, prompting questions about whether the premium is worth it.
DJI's Osmo Pocket 4P brings a dual-lens pocket camera with a 1-inch sensor and a dedicated 60mm telephoto lens, 4K/240fps, and 10-bit D-Log 2, while the standout FrameTap accessory acts as a wireless viewfinder and remote gimbal controller that lets you preview footage, switch modes, and track subjects remotely—potentially making solo filming much easier. Global rollout is underway but the US launch is uncertain due to regulatory constraints; the standard Pocket 4 remains the practical choice for many buyers, as the market for pocket camera rigs grows alongside Insta360's Luna Ultra amid ongoing patent disputes.
DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4P packs a dual-camera design with a LOFIC main sensor and D-Log 2 that can push impressive dynamic range, delivering superb image quality and 240fps slow-motion, but its log workflow, bulky interface, and telephoto DR penalties limit its appeal; while still a standout pocket gimbal, it’s not universally approachable, and US availability is constrained by a DJI ban.
Canon Rumors says the long‑rumored RF 300-600mm f/5.6L IS USM super‑telephoto zoom will be announced in September, with a price likely under $10,000, though exact specs (focal range, aperture, price) aren’t confirmed; the report also anticipates at least one more RF lens (likely an RF 24-70mm f/2L) in September, with the timing relative to other Canon announcements (like EOS R8 Mark II/PowerShot) still unclear.
Live Science outlines seven practical approaches to photographing the August 12, 2026 total solar eclipse, ranging from souvenir shots through eclipse glasses on a phone to wide-angle landscapes, crescent-sun projections, close-up corona with telephoto lenses, and both full-sequence and wide-angle sequence techniques, all with emphasis on solar safety and rehearsal/gear options.

The Verge tests Vivo X300 Ultra’s attachable 200mm and 400mm telephoto extenders with a pro grip, finding they deliver true optical zoom and richer depth/detail than digital zoom, turning a smartphone into a capable telephoto shooter. However, the gear is bulky and not easily portable, and the device is currently China-only, suggesting US brands may soon offer similar accessories if demand grows.
Nikon has unveiled the NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S II, the lightest in its class at 998 g, with a constant f/2.8 aperture and about 26% lighter design versus the previous model. It features a redesigned weight-reduced build, Silky Swift VCM for faster, quieter AF (about 3.5x faster) and improved zoom tracking (~40% better), plus optical upgrades (Super ED, aspherical ED elements) to curb aberrations. The lens supports Arca-Swiss tripod heads, adds anti-reflection coatings (Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat), a filter adjustment window, 6-stop VR, internal zoom, and compatibility with Z Teleconverters TC-1.4x/2.0x, while offering rugged dust- and drip-resistance for stills and video use.
