Trump Unveils Treasury Portal to Expand Retirement Savings Access

Trump signed an executive order directing the Treasury to launch a public portal, TrumpIRA.gov, offering vetted, low‑fee retirement plans modeled on the Thrift Savings Plan to Americans lacking employer‑based accounts (about 54 million). The move builds on Biden’s Saver’s Match concept but stops short of automatic enrollment or a larger employer match, which would require new legislation; Wall Street welcomed the plan as unlocking a new market and opportunity for private providers, while critics say real impact depends on stronger incentives and enrollment automation.

USPS Halts FERS Employer Contributions to Shore Up Cash Reserves

The U.S. Postal Service announced a cash-conservation plan that temporarily suspends employer contributions to the defined-benefit portion of the Federal Employees Retirement System starting April 10, to preserve liquidity amid a severe financial crisis. The move frees about $2.5 billion in the current fiscal year; employee contributions to FERS and employer automatic/matching contributions to the Thrift Savings Plan, as well as employee contributions to the TSP, will continue. CFO Luke Grossmann says there will be no immediate harm to current or future retirees, and notes that FERS remains better funded than many other agencies. The USPS pays roughly $200 million biweekly to OPM for the FERS annuity, with more details in the FERS action FAQ.

TSP Faces Class-Action Lawsuit for Recordkeeper Transition and Website Issues

Seven Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) participants have filed a class-action lawsuit against the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board and Accenture Federal Services (AFS), along with AFS’ contracting partner Alight Solutions, for failing to provide the services required by the contract, industry standards, and federal law. The lawsuit comes a year after the major update to TSP, which caused severe technical problems and processing delays for loans, withdrawals, and death benefits. The plaintiffs are seeking damages and a declaration that FRTIB, AFS, and Alight are financially responsible for participants’ losses.
