The Trump administration fired Boston immigration judge Roopal Patel, who had ruled that Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visa revocation did not require her removal, as part of a broad purge of immigration judges amid a DOJ-led overhaul of U.S. immigration courts. Patel and several colleagues were dismissed during a two‑year probationary period, part of a wave that has reduced rosters in Boston and Chelmsford and coincided with new hires pushing total immigration judges to about 600 nationwide.
