Microsoft rolls out emergency OOB fix to stop Dell shutdowns after July Windows updates
Microsoft released an out-of-band emergency update (KB5121767) to Dell PCs on Windows 11 25H2/24H2 that had installed KB5101650, addressing a conflict between the June 2026 KB5095093 preview update’s USB-C Connection Manager and the Intel IPF Processor Participant driver. This mismatch could cause performance problems, extra heat, battery drain, or unexpected shutdowns, leading Microsoft to temporarily block the July 2026 update for affected devices. The new OOB update is optional for those devices, with automatic deployment via Windows Autopatch or expedited rollout via Intune for admins; non-affected devices require no action, and a restart may be needed if the July update hasn’t been installed yet.
