Oahu Flood Crisis Triggers 5,500+ Evacuations as Dam Risks Elevate Hazard
Heavy rains on Oahu’s north shore have forced evacuations for about 5,500 residents, with Waialua residents urged to leave due to the risk of road failure. No deaths have been reported yet, but around 200 people have been rescued and 10 hospitalized for hypothermia. A 120-year-old Wahiawa dam is considered at imminent risk of failure, prompting further evacuations and a major mobilization of the Hawaii National Guard and other responders. Gov. Josh Green says damage could exceed $1 billion, and more rain is expected in coming days.
