"February Sees First Decline in US Consumer Confidence in Three Months"

The Conference Board Consumer Confidence Index® fell to 106.7 in February from a revised 110.9 in January, signaling a decline in consumer confidence after three months of gains. The Present Situation Index and Expectations Index both decreased, reflecting concerns about the US economy, particularly among consumers under 35 and those 55 and over. Consumers' assessments of business conditions, employment, and personal financial situations weakened, while expectations for future business and labor market conditions also deteriorated. Additionally, buying plans for autos, homes, and big-ticket appliances dipped, and there was renewed pessimism about future economic conditions. Average 12-month inflation expectations ticked down to 5.2 percent, aligning with a slowdown in consumer price inflation.
