Switching to Electric Vehicles Could Save Thousands of Lives, Reports Show

A new report from the American Lung Association suggests that if gas-powered vehicles were replaced by electric vehicles by 2035, the US could see 89,300 fewer premature deaths by 2050. The report also states that the country would have to move towards clean noncombustion electricity to see the full health benefit. Transportation is the leading source of air pollution in the US and the largest creator of carbon pollution that drives the climate crisis. The switch to zero-emission vehicles would mean a massive change for the US, but the benefits may well exceed the costs of those actions in the first place.
