"The Dual Benefits of a Plant-Based Diet: Health and Climate"

A comprehensive analysis of randomized trials since 1982 has found that vegetarian and vegan diets can significantly reduce cholesterol and fat levels in the blood, thereby decreasing the risk of heart and blood vessel diseases. Plant-based diets were found to achieve a third of the cholesterol-lowering effect of statins, suggesting a potential synergy when both strategies are combined. The study, published in the European Heart Journal, analyzed 30 trials with over 2,300 participants and found that plant-based diets were associated with a 14% reduction in artery-clogging lipoproteins. The researchers concluded that adopting a plant-based diet from an early age could substantially reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease caused by blocked arteries.
