Emergent BioSolutions, the manufacturer of Narcan, aims to reduce the wholesale price of the overdose reversal drug to around $50 per carton from the current $125 per carton. The FDA recently approved sales of Narcan without a prescription, expanding access to the drug in areas with significant overdose problems and lacking pharmacies. However, the final price and insurance coverage for Narcan remain uncertain. Emergent acknowledges that maintaining affordability will require collaboration between government leaders, retailers, and other key stakeholders.
