LASSS Antioxidant Shows Promise in Rejuvenating Aging Muscle Repair

Age-related nitration impairs hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), a key muscle-repair signal. In a Scientific Reports study, two sulfur-based antioxidants (GSSSG and LASSS) reduced HGF nitration, but LASSS not only protected HGF but also enhanced its interaction with the c-met receptor, effectively boosting muscle-repair signaling in mouse models. While promising, these results need validation in humans and longer-term studies to assess potential in preventing age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia) and frailty.
