U.S. strikes curb Iran’s Hormuz surveillance, ISW finds

ISW says U.S. strikes degraded Iran’s ability to surveil and lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz, even as oil traffic through the waterway spiked (about 40 vessels on Sept. 1 and 17 million barrels on Aug. 31), suggesting Tehran is having difficulty blocking the southern route. The IRGC has shifted to less efficient methods due to degraded radar coverage, while CENTCOM reports that mines are now highly degraded; Iran is likely to attempt rebuilding radars and other capabilities to maintain Hormuz control.
