Iowa treated to stunning Northern Lights display.

The Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis, were visible in Iowa on Sunday night and as far south as Oklahoma and Arkansas. The lights are caused by electrically-charged particles from the Sun interacting with Earth's magnetic field. Sunday's display was due to a massive release of plasma from the Sun on Friday, according to NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center. Viewers sent in photos of the lights to KCCI, which had a purple and greenish hue.
