Dolly Poised to Weaken as It Heads Toward the Caribbean

The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Dolly is a fast-moving system about 1,145 miles east of the Caribbean’s Leeward Islands, moving west at 24 mph with maximum sustained winds near 40 mph. Dolly is forecast to degenerate into a tropical wave before reaching the Leeward Islands, but heavy rain could lash the Caribbean this weekend, bringing flash‑flood risks to the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Hispaniola. Florida isn’t expected to be threatened by Dolly, and forecasters note the 2026 Atlantic season is anticipated to produce 7–13 named storms with limited chances of major hurricanes.
