Seattle and Portland are experiencing record-breaking heat, with temperatures 20 to 25 degrees higher than usual for May. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories from the Canadian border south into California. Meanwhile, parts of Texas, including the Houston area, could get hit with bands of heavy rain, bringing the possibility of flash flooding. A powerful tornado tore through the community of Laguna Heights in Texas, killing one person and sending at least 10 others to local hospitals. The rest of the country could be in for a pleasant week.
