A recent study led by Jonathan Brande at the University of Kansas has provided new insights into the atmospheres of 15 Neptune-like exoplanets, revealing that some appear cloudy while others are clear. By analyzing the behavior of these planetary atmospheres, the researchers found that the presence of high-altitude clouds or hazes can affect the clarity of the planets. Using a technique called transmission spectroscopy, the team observed the absorption of light by different gases in the atmospheres of these exoplanets, shedding light on the physical explanations behind their distinct appearances. Additionally, the study also announced findings of water vapor on GJ 9827d, a planet as hot as Venus, suggesting it may be one of many water-rich planets in the Milky Way.
