The James Webb Space Telescope has captured a stunning image of Uranus, revealing its dramatic rings and bright features in the planet's atmosphere. The new data offer exquisite sensitivity, revealing the faintest dusty rings and a subtle enhanced brightening at the center of the polar cap. Uranus is unique in that it rotates on its side, causing unusual seasons since the planet's poles experience 42 years of constant sunlight and 42 years of complete darkness. The sensitivity of Webb's Near-Infrared Camera and the longer wavelengths it can see may explain why we can see this enhanced polar feature of Uranus when it has not been seen with other powerful telescopes.
