A severe geomagnetic storm reached Earth on Sunday night, resulting in visible auroras as far south as Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia. The Planetary K Index reached severe levels, peaking at 8 a few times overnight. Ten new photos of the aurora across the region have been shared, including an Aurora Pillar seen in NW Frederick County in Virginia and a green and purple hue in Westminster, Maryland. Other sightings were reported in Ellicott City, Hampstead, Sykesville, and Lewes, Delaware.
