Twisted Magnetic Fields in Fast Radio Bursts: A Possible Alien Contact?

Astronomers have discovered a never-before-seen behavior in a repeating fast radio burst (FRB) called FRB 20190520B. The magnetic field around the FRB source changes direction twice over a short period of time, indicating that the FRB is orbiting a stellar companion releasing a lot of stellar wind. The source is believed to be a binary system with a star, which has strong stellar wind with a strong magnetic field. The study offers insights into the origin of FRBs and their potential to probe astrophysics in dense and highly magnetized environments.
