Tonight's supermoon, known as the sturgeon supermoon, will be the second-largest moon of the year and can be seen by everyone. Supermoons occur when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, appearing larger and brighter. This month's full moon is called the sturgeon moon due to the spawning season of the largest freshwater fish in North America. The supermoon will be at its fullest at 2:32 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday, but the best viewing will be during moonrise in the evening. The next supermoon, a super blue moon, will occur on August 31.
