Mavericks, a big-wave surfing spot in California, is being reshaped by severe climate events, with 20 to 30 feet of coastline disappearing due to erosion. Big-wave surfer Grant Washburn has been surfing there for 30 years and has noticed the changes. He has teamed up with oceanographer Tim Janssen to study the waves and the impact of climate change on the area. Rising sea levels and extreme weather patterns are making the surf break unridable for much of the winter, and the violence of the weather patterns is destroying the orderliness of the waves.
