NASA has offered its satellite technology to Brazil to help identify destruction in the Amazon rainforest. The satellite, called NISAR, will be able to capture real-time images below the forest cover, allowing for the detection of undergrowth burning and potential threats to the rainforest. The technology will support the SERVIR Amazonia project, providing Earth science data to scientists and decision-makers to monitor environmental changes and predict climate threats. Brazil's space agency has partnered with China to launch satellites, but cloud cover often hinders clear and timely imagery. NASA's satellites, set to be launched in early 2024, will enhance understanding of the rainforest's condition.
