Unveiling the Alarming Reality of Thawing Methane Under the Seabed

The thawing of frozen methane hydrate, a combination of methane and water, under the seabed due to warming oceans is a greater concern than previously thought, as it could release large amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, into the ocean and atmosphere. Methane hydrate contains as much carbon as all remaining oil and gas reserves on Earth, and its release could lead to increased ocean acidity and further climate warming.
